چکیده
Mixtures of powder and liquid are ubiquitous in nature as well industries exhibit complex flowing deforming behaviors, including sol to gel transition under shear stress. In order better understand the characteristic features this type mixture, we observed behavior a mixture colloidal silica particles water model system vibration. The showed different states, from powder-like viscous fluid-like, with increasing content water. At certain concentrations (around 70 wt. %) relatively faster vibration (over 17 Hz), that suspension climbed up wall container against gravity. main purpose paper is report how can observe climbing silica. rheological measurements demonstrated shear-thickening behavior, where force chain networks normal stress differences considered develop. Therefore, speculate transient formation breaking contribute occurrence suspension. tunable suspensions may help elucidate mechanism future.

Normal-stress coefficients and rod climbing in colloidal dispersions.
We calculate tractable microscopic expressions for the low-shear normal-stress coefficients of colloidal dispersions. Although restricted to the low rate regime, the presented formulas are valid for all volume fractions below the glass transition and for any interaction potential. Numerical results are presented for a system of colloids interacting via a hard-core attractive Yukawa potential, f...
متن کاملNonlinear ac response of colloidal suspension with an intrinsic dispersion
When a sinusoidal (ac) field is applied to a suspension containing nonlinear dielectric particles, the electrical response will generally consist of ac fields at frequencies of the higher-order harmonics. The situation is further complicated by an intrinsic dielectric dispersion which often occurs due to the surface conductivity or inhomogeneous structure of the particles. We perform a perturba...
متن کاملSmectic Phase in a Colloidal Suspension of Semiflexible Virus Particles
Aqueous suspensions of micron-length, charged, semiflexible fd virus particles are studied experimentally in order to explore properties of the cholesteric-smectic phase transition in a system approximating flexible, hard rods. Through comparison of this system with (1) computer simulations of hard, rigid rods, (2) experiments on tobacco mosaic virus, a rigid, charged virus, and on pf1, a flexi...
متن کاملSegregated Ice Growth in a Suspension of Colloidal Particles.
We study the freezing of a dispersion of colloidal silica particles in water, focusing on the formation of segregated ice in the form of ice lenses. Local temperature measurements in combination with video microscopy give insight into the rich variety of factors that control ice lens formation. We observe the initiation of the lenses, their growth morphology, and their final thickness and spaci...
متن کاملEfficient nematode swimming in a shear thinning colloidal suspension.
The swimming behavior of a nematode Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) is investigated in a non-Newtonian shear thinning colloidal suspension. At the onset value (ϕ∼ 8%), the suspension begins to exhibit shear thinning behavior, and the average swimming speed of worms jumps by approximately 12% more than that measured in a Newtonian solution exhibiting no shear dependent viscosity. In the shea...
